Rice Donation to help millions
The ongoing drought has affected millions living in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands. In light of this, the government has received a rice donation of Sh. 2.25 billion from the Chinese government as aid to help these people.
The Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, gender, Senior Citizen’s Affairs and Special Programmes Margaret Kobia received the first batch of the seven consignments on Monday the 22nd of November. Kenyans who are suffering at the hands of the drought will receive some relief from the rice donation Kobia believes.
This particular donation from the Chinese government is to be distributed amongst schools in the ASAL region. This is to ensure that students are able to remain in school during this trying period.
“I am happy to note that the donation we are receiving today is a significant support from a friendly Government coming in our hour of need.” said the CS.
In early October, the President declared the drought to be a national disaster in Kenya. The government and multiple agencies have been able to make efforts to mitigate the situation.
The rice donation will definitely assist many as much as more the large population of affected remain in need.
