Avocado seedlings provided in Kisii and Nyamira
Kisii and Nyamira county avocado farmers have recently been celebrating the supply of about 18,000 Hass avocado seedlings. The Dagoretti North Legislator Simba Arati was behind this act of boosting the sector.
The seedlings were distributed at Motonto village within the constituency of Kisii County. Furthermore, Mr Arati believes that farmers will benefit greatly from this added variety of avocados.
Additionally, he urged farmers to take control of their market and weed out brokers who buy their products at low prices. Further, he believes that if the farmers take control of their own product then they will reap the maximum profit.
Beneficiaries Tabitha Momanyi and Samwel Nyabuto were happy about the move. And additionally promised to embrace the venture with enthusiasm with an eye on higher returns.
Kenya is one of the largest exporters of avocado globally, which has in recent years grown in demand. The European and Middle eastern Markets being the largest growing when it comes to demand of avocado. The Horticultural Crops Directorate showed that Kenya’s export in tons grew significantly in the last year. Avocado seedlings provided in Kisii and Nyamira will greatly open a chance for farmers to diversify their income and crops.
