Nyeri Government provides farmers with equipment

The equipment includes: 14 chaff cutters, 10 forage choppers and 3 bean threshers to the Gathathi-ini Men Self Help Group. Additionally, the Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Programme Project (KCSAP) will help boost the food production and livestock farming.

The governor of Nyeri, Mr Kahiga spoke in Kieni as he issued farm equipment and urged the residents to create more groups. Furthermore, he reminded them that they stand to gain more as working as a community.

KCSAP in conjunction with the County Government of Nyeri funded over 31 farmer groups. These groups have benefitted with over Sh. 26 Million through micro project funding.

Importantly, the four value chains will be Dairy, Indigenous chicken, Irish Potato, Beans and Natural resource management.

World Bank funds the KCSAP project which is running in 24 counties nationally.  KSCAP aims at furthering agricultural productivity and improving resilience when it comes to climate change. These items are being implemented in Kieni West, Kieni East and Mukurwe-ini.

Furthermore, he emphasized that these efforts were necessary as agriculture remains the backbone of the country’s economy.
