Over 5,000 youth in Busia County to receive key skills and resources for success in modern agribusiness

More than 5,000 youth in Busia County are poised gain essential skills and resources to enable them thrive in modern agribusiness, enterprise development, and ecopreneurship.

This follows Wezesha Agri-Eco Hub Project launched by Safaricom Foundation yesterday to promote sustainable economic empowerment in the county.

Over a span of two years, this program—created in partnership with organizations like Ustadi Foundation, Lake Basin Development Authority, Alupe University, and the County Government of Busia—aims to empower youth, women, and persons with disabilities by providing access to advanced digital tools, practical knowledge, and market opportunities.

The initiative prioritizes climate-smart farming, equipping participants with sustainable agricultural practices to adapt to evolving environmental conditions. Digital literacy is a cornerstone, allowing participants to leverage technology for agribusiness innovation and improved efficiency.

Additionally, the program fosters e-commerce integration, linking youth-led agribusinesses to larger markets via online platforms, thereby generating sustainable income and promoting economic growth.

A key feature of the initiative is the establishment of a Centre of Excellence Demo Farm. This cutting-edge facility provides hands-on training in modern agricultural techniques and green technologies, serving as a model for sustainable farming practices and inspiring the next generation of agripreneurs.

Through strategic partnerships and innovative strategies, the Safaricom Foundation is harnessing agriculture as a key catalyst for economic empowerment. The Wezesha Agri-Eco Hub serves as a model for inclusive, sustainable development, advancing Kenya’s youth-centered initiatives.

This initiative underscores the Safaricom Foundation’s commitment to fostering resilient communities and supporting economic independence, in line with Kenya’s sustainable development goals.
